Two Kingdoms, Two Loyalties: Mennonite Pacifism in Modern America
Published in Hardcover by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (October, 1998)
Author: Perry Bush
Average review score:

An extremely helpful book.
Two Kingdoms, Two Loyalties is an an extremely helpful book. Well-researched and well-written, it sheds considerable light on the American state in the twentieth century and on the nature of "conservative" Protestantism in the modern U.S.

Best book on the topic by far.
Found it to be interesting and well researched account of the changes in Mennonite social and spiritual mores over the period from WWII to Vietnam. Noted Los Angeles Mennonite scholar T. Lasorda recently opined that Bush "wasn't a hit with the Mennoknights but his prose, passion, and persuasion make this a must read for those seeking enlightenment on the topic."

Unshakable Faith
Published in Hardcover by Multnomah Publishers Inc. (November, 1999)
Author: John Perry
Average review score:

If you need to be humbled....read this book
I am reminded by people like George Carver and Booker Washington that I have done so little, while they accomplished so very much. Besides the awe inspiring historical accounts of these two saints, the book is written with a kind of zeal that is obvious to the reader. It is obvious that the author loved writing it as much as we enjoy reading it (either that or he fakes it really well).

I have only a few books that I will make my children read (when they come of age)....this is one of them.

Men of Sacrifice
John Perry has delivered the goods as a researcher and biographer. In this book about two luminaries of the 20th Century, who brought the light of their torches from the 19th, we have a book that will inspire everyone. There are places where it will not leave you tearless.

Balance, honesty and contextual historicism are characteristic of Perry's work.

Most reading it will concur with this reviewer that Perry has found a niche in reminding us of those persons of sacrifice who are such a rare type of leader in this 21st century.

Take time to read this book and discover Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver whose lives transcended racial prejudice, reviling, misunderstanding and jealousy.

Werwolf!: The History of the National Socialist Guerrilla Movement 1944-1946
Published in Hardcover by Consortium Book Sales & Distribution (March, 1998)
Author: Perry Biddiscombe
Average review score:

Triumph of the Will
"Historians" who claim that the Werwolf was nothing more than a figment of the imagination will be forced to hang their arrogant heads in shame after reading this superb book. The research is top notch. So many things I never read about before. The Werwolf was a very active guerrilla organization that refused to bow down to the enemies of the Reich. After reading this book you will be forced to admit that the Werwolf was the most underated guerrilla oranization in history. But finally a true historian from the old school has come forward to tell the simple truth. The fantical followers of Hitler refused to give up. They retreated into the woods and mountains of Holy Reich and waged war on the enemy for YEARS after the fall of Berlin and the death of Der Fuehrer. A must read for anyone interested in untold tales of World War II. Inspiring. After you read it you will want to form your own Werewolf unit and continue the Struggle. 88!

Kapitulieren? Nein!
As WW2 came to a close, the Third Reich established the "Werwolf" guerilla movement for defense against the Allied invasion of Germany. This book discusses the establishment of the Werwolf, and covers a long series of their exploits: sabotage, sniping at allied troops, and leaving behind poisoned liquor for the Russians. A young HJ member's valiant retaliation against a Russian officer who accosted his sister is discussed, along with the further crimes the Red Army perpetrated in response. The famous last-ditch Alpine Redoubt is covered in detail.

This book also discusses the significant differences in attitude toward the Allied invasion in different districts of Germany. The fate of ethnic Germans living in Alsace, Malmedy, Poland, and the Sudetenland receives a considerable amount of attention.

The book can become rather depressing at times, because of the utter hopelessness of the war at this point, and the attrocities commited against German civilians and POWs by the Allies. However, it remains a very compelling tale none the less. I highly recommend the book.

7 Reece Mews: Francis Bacon's Studio
Published in Hardcover by Thames & Hudson (September, 2001)
Authors: Perry Ogden and John Edwards
Average review score:

Essential coda
An unusual, beautiful little book for the shelves of Francis Bacon fans. The photographs are beautiful, exhaustively document this legendary, but little known space, and have a haunting quality that complements other Bacon monographs. One senses the vibrancy of the artist's life, and only then the realization that, but for the fact he is deceased, the reader would not be holding this book and having this "privileged" view. Very strange!

African-American Literature: An Anthology of Nonfiction, Fiction, Poetry, and Drama
Published in Paperback by Natl Textbook Co Trade (March, 1993)
Authors: Demetrice A. Worley and Jesse Perry
Average review score:

An excellent book for educators or new African Lit. readers.
This book serves as a very useful tool for educators who would like to introduce junior high or high school students to African-American literature. The anthology also works well for anyone who is looking for an interesting compilation of important writers. The discussion questions following each entry are very well written and the biographical introductions are a nice touch (especially since the authors are so interesting). The book begins with an insightful introduction by Nikki Giovanni and then outlines African history in American. The anthology entries are divided into themes, which focus the reader's attentions and thoughts.

Aikido Talks: Conversations with American Aikidoists
Published in Paperback by Arete Press (15 January, 2002)
Authors: Susan Perry and Ronald Rubin
Average review score:

Aikido through the eyes of its American exponents.
I bought this book with no hesitation when I saw it advertised in Aikido Today Magazine.

I have been living and training in Japan for the past six years and am always very interested to hear the opinions and stories from the multitude of instructors here. Although I am very happy to be here in Japan training under an amazing Sensei, after reading the interviews in this book, I no longer feel that to find 'true' Aikido you must travel to Japan. I have come to realize that the Aikido being practiced in America is vibrant, alive, and growing quickly.

This book is a collection of interviews with some of the more widely known Aikidoists in America and I recommend it without reserve, to anyone interested in North American Aikido.

I would also like to encourage the editors to publish a collection of conversations with the Japanese Aikidoists. I'm sure that it would be as beneficial as this book.

Times Picayune
I read this review in the Times-Picayune Newspaper on February 6, 2000:

"Algiers Point is at its best when Perry shares insider dirt on how policing works. It's a bit like watching an episode of "COPS", narrated by a cop who no longer cares what his boss thinks." - Richard Sine is a reporter in the West Bank bureau.

An Altar Guild Manual
Published in Paperback by Morehouse Publishing (December, 1981)
Author: Edith Weir Perry
Average review score:

A good resource book for Episcopal altar guild trainees
Although dated in its perspective, this little book is a gem of information. It has a great deal of information packed into it. The reverent and practical aspects of altar guild membership are addressed. It gives suggestions for guild by-laws, prayers, and a very nice glossary. I wish it had more diagrams, including altar linen care, but for the price it's a bargain.
